STEVENS POINT–This past weekend, 90FM’s executive staff virtually attended the annual Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Student Seminar. Following several great sessions connecting with professionals and an insightful keynote from Charlie Berens, several members of our staff were rewarded for their impressive work in 2020.
News and Public Affairs Director Anna Herrmann was awarded with first place in News Writing for her story on the UWSP CASE Campus Cupboard.
Production Director Sarah Johnsrud won first place for the second consecutive year in Station Imaging for her promo leading up to last February’s Queen Tribute Day.
Station Manager Alex Strouf was recognized as the Student Leadership Award recipient, as well as winning Sports Radio Story and Sports Radio Programming for his coverage of the WIAC’s cancellation of fall sports. Strouf has placed first in Sports Radio Programming each of the last four years.
Program Director Keegan West walked away with two first place awards. The first was in Long-Form Documentary for his special ‘Home Grown Folkie,’ a feature on area band Horse Shoes and Hand Grenades. West also won Radio Air Check for his work as a general programming DJ.
Music Director Theresa Yonash placed second in Long-Form Production for her Sherlock Holmes play adapted for radio, which aired in early 2020. Numerous student volunteers participated in the voice work for this production.
90FM was also ranked as the top-ranked student radio station on social media and took second place overall.
